Macro and Muck Diving Videography
Shooting macro video of critters while muck diving
If you want to avoid alienating your fellow divers then good diving skills and buoyancy control are essential for muck diving
Very easy to kick up the dirt and can take ages to clear, especially when there is no current
I once waited patiently in line to video a seahorse in the Lembeh Strait. When the guy in front of me had finished his shot he promptly turned around and gave a giant kick with his fins. The seabed erupted and for a moment I thought Mount Klabat had woken from its slumber. When the outfall finally settled the seahorse had completely vanished and the dive guide and I were left staring despondently at an empty patch of volcanic dirt.
Be extra careful where you kneel and put your hands
Approach very slowly. Let marine life get used to you. Let others get their shots first so you have time and space without pressure.
Leave camera. No good for garden eels. Good for shrimp gobies.
