Highlights of a scuba diving expedition I made to Bali in September 2007 with AquaMarine Diving. The video starts with footage of the wreck of the USAT Liberty which was torpedoed by the Japanese off Lombok and beached at Tulamben. In 1963 the last eruption of Mount Agung caused the shipwreck to slide deeper into the sea where she lies today. The famous school of bigeye trevally circle above the wreck, while a great barracuda lurks under the stern. Sweetlips and garden eels inhabit the dark volcanic sand above the wreck. Green humphead parrotfish shelter inside the wreck at night.
We then move to Crystal Bay on Nusa Penida where mola mola come to get cleaned by bannerfish.
Also at Nusa Penida we meet schooling pyramid bannerfish at Ped and a whitetip reef shark at SD.
We encounter a Goniobranchus tinctorius nudibranch at Gili Mimpang and a broadclub cuttlefish at Gili Tepekong.
Blue Lagoon and Pura Jepun near Padangbai feature a leaf scorpionfish, nudibranchs and a porcelain anemone crab feeding with it's "comb" claws.
For many, Tulamben offers the best diving in Bali, and Coral Garden delivers a feast of macro subjects including ornate ghost pipefish, ribbon eels, various nudibranchs, an Oates soft coral crab, crinoid squat lobster, ridged egg cowrie and clownfish.
Also at Tulamben, dive on the Drop-off typically start and end at The River which invariably offers fantastic macro subjects. Here we find short sea moths and different shrimps and nudibranchs.
Around the corner from Tulamben, Seraya Secrets is Bali diving at it's best. Various shrimps are found here, including a stunning pair of harlequin shrimp feasting on starfish in the shallows. Few dive sites in the world match the variety of nudibranchs that can be found at Seraya Secrets, and other surprises like a black painted frogfish and striped eel catfish are in residence.
Finally we move to Puri Jati, one of Bali's relatively recent discovered diving spots. On the gently-sloping sand we find numerous critters including dwarf lionfish, an orange-and-black dragonet, a long-rayed sand diver and long-rayed sand divers and a coconut octopus.
This video was shot in 1080-50i HDV with my Sony HVR-Z1P camera and is delivered here in 720p HD.
